directJOB
Printout of spoolfiles
directJOB prints raw spool files as well as EMF files on Windows printers. Local and remote printers are supported.
RAW printing: Printing raw spoolfiles the spool file is been copied directly and 1:1 to the printer port. The Windows printer driver does not intercept the print stream. Network printers are detected automatically and the spooling data is printed using the appropriate Windows transportation layer.
EMF printing: Windows Extended Metafile (EMF) can be printed on arbitrary Windows printers through the Windows GDI interface. EMF files are handled by the installed Windows printer driver, therefore these files can be printed on any printer. The target printer has not to support the EMF format.
Printing service: directJOB comes with a Windows Service for monitoring of directories. Setup shared directories and connect directJOB - queues. Every file saved into the shared directory is printed directly on the selected printer. If you are looking for some enhanced features as filetype conversion and support of multiple file formats try our product directPRINT/Service, too.
directJOB is a command line program and is intended for integration into existent print management systems. In the command line the name of spoolfiles and the printer name is indentified. Error conditions are signaled through return codes.
Where to use
Printing raw spoolfiles means that the printer has to support the data format of the spoolfiles. directJOB can be used to print data streams of 3'rd party applications, e.g. the Linux printing subsystems and CAD applications installed on other operating systems than Microsoft Windows. Some examples:
- Printing Postscript produced on Linux on printer connected to a Windows print server
- Printing TIFF files on printers supporting TIFF.
- Printing HP GL I/II or PCL formatted spoolfiles
- Printing text files on dot matrix printers
- Printing Epson ESC/P spoolfiles produced on MS-DOS

In order to create a printing service on a Windows system, you need additional software to accept incoming print files. directJOB has been designed to run as a pluging in directPRINT/Service.
